I had a pretty old laptop (almost 3yrs old) and recently i wasn’t at all satisfied with the performance of the vista. One of the biggest limitation of windows is that you cannot install a light weight or a strimmed down version of it. And this is where exactly linux wins the race. You can literally select each package that should be installed on your machine.
With the above decision I decided to go ahead and install the Ubuntu Linux on my laptop using the bottom to up approach i.e. I’ll first start with a bare minimum command line installation of Ubuntu and later go on adding packages as and when needed.
So I decided to download Ubuntu minimal and then installed the bare minimum required packages. And to my surprise it was amazing fast and stable. This was exactly what I was looking for, clearly I wasn’t the only to with such requirements and hence Ubuntu had already created such a version.
Also not to mention I hardly compromised anywhere on the looks. I installed a few themes to enjoy and it was far more fun than windows :)
