PING LINUX

I remember my first tryst with linux in 2002. Red Hat linux was quite popular and it was only distribution heard everywhere. Red Hat was equivalent to linux. None of me and my college-friends knew about the concept of distribution. But if you know anything about linux you were considered techie and a computer nerd.

With this image in mind I decided to get my hands dirty with Red Hat Linux and bought a book called ‘Red Hat Linux Bible’, which also came with 4 CD’s of Red Hat operating system. After browsing through a few pages, I decided to go ahead with installation, it was Red Hat 9.0 version. Installation was pretty easy than expected even as a dual boot OS on my celeron machine.

A few days later, I faced some problem with my windows installation and decided to re-install it, without giving much of a thought about my Red Hat installation. And poof! My linux installation was gone. I wasn’t much aware of grub in those days, and so I started blaming linux for its unfriendliness (obviously for none of its fault).

And thus my first ping to the linux failed and it failed badly. I concluded that linux is not my cup of tea. And I never thought that I’d fall so much in love with it one day. But the things changed and today I can hardly imagine my world without the penguin.

So this blog is all about dumping my knowledge somewhere online in not-so-well documented format. So that me and someone in need can refer them whenever needed.
